Sunday Session - The Hand Over

The Sunday Session doesn't live here any more.
It packed its bag,
jumped on a plane,
and moved in with Jade in London!
I hope you follow it over there.
I'm sure it will be very happy in its new home.

Thanks Jade for taking over. xx

And as you may have guessed,
I'm stepping away from this blog for a bit.
I'll still be around on my other blogs...

'til next time.....

Australia has plenty of talent shows...Australian Idol, X Factor, Australia's Got Talent...and I must admit I get sucked into every one of them. I'm really looking forward to The Voice, it looks amazing. This week's Sunday Session is some of what these shows have unearthed.

This is my new favourite song by Timomatic who did not win Australia's Got Talent, but was placed third last year.

And then there's Ricki-Lee Coulter who made it to the top 12 of Australian Idol in 2004.

The next song is from Jessica Mouboy (who was Australian Idol's runner up in 2006) and Stan Walker (who won in 2009).

And another one from Australian Idol was Shannon Noll, who was runner up in 2003.

I think Australia really does have talent. Don't you?

Yesterday was St Patrick's Day. And yes, this is my third post in a row about that!
I love Ireland, I love anything Irish, so I love St Paddy's Day.
Let's go all Irish shall we?

I adore the Corrs, but if you've been hanging around here for awhile, you probably already know that.

Today at our school fete (our school is called St Patrick's so it was a very appropriate day to have it) Miss 4 and I sat and watched the Irish dancing. She loves it. I'm quite sure she was doing an Irish jig before she was born. It was nothing like this...

And I wish I was at this Irish dance party, if the ship didn't sink, of course!
Helloooooooooo Leo!

I'm writing this post early, and attempting to schedule it, because I'm having my second big weekend in a row! And after last week, I'm hoping nothing goes wrong with my post this week!!

Eight of my dearest friends from teacher's college and I are away on our annual girls' weekend at Maleny.
So, in honour of my eight friends (Bronwyn, Jane, Joanna, Julie, Katrina, Melina, Nicole & Toni), whom I met 25 years ago (OMG, I am totally aware of how old that makes me!!) in 1987...let's step back in time, to 1987!

Embedding has been disabled for this one but click here to see which Madonna song was big in 1987.

Houston, we have a problem.
My Sunday Session post disappeared!!
I've had a very busy weekend helping my sister celebrate her upcoming 40th birthday.
It was wonderful fun, thanks for asking. ;)
And I had the Sunday Session ready to go, 'cause I'm all organized like that.
But this morning when I went to hit publish (I'm not real good with scheduling posts)
it was gone!
The title was there, but nothing else.
It was gonski and I don't know what I did.
Don't you hate it when you spend ages composing a post and it vanishes into the Blogger ether.

Anyhow, it was about Davy Jones this week.
I loved watching re-runs of the Monkees when I was a kid and I had lots of links, including the time when he was on the Brady Bunch (I loved re-runs of that show too!)
And because I'm tired and lazy after my big weekend, I'm not doing it all over.
I'm just sharing one.

This is for you, Davy Jones. RIP

Happy Sunday!

A song that often pops up on my treadmill play list is this one...

And every time I hear the line...

Ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio

I think to myself...

I must listen to Mr. Mister again

...but I always forget to.

Until now!

Mr. Mister was a hot favourite of mine when I was in high school.
I had this album

and LOVED it!

They were probably most well known for "Broken Wings",
but this was my favourite Mr. Mister song.

Happy Sunday!

Last Sunday, as we were driving in the car, we heard the very sad news on the radio that Whitney Houston had been found dead in her hotel room.  Whitney held a huge place in my musical heart in the 80s and early 90s. Not only was she stunning, she had the most amazing voice. I do believe there was a time in my teens that I was going to call my first daughter Whitney...I didn't...but I was going to! Whitney's songs bring back a truck load of memories for me. One of my most prized records was this one...

I couldn't wait to get home from work (this was my 'gap' year when I worked in a bank before I went to college) to play it over and over and over. The year was 1986, I bought it in my lunch break. What a treasure this album was.

So this week's Sunday Session is in memory of Whitney Houston and her beautiful music.
These are my favourite Whitney songs.
What are yours?

RIP Whitney.

Happy Sunday!

This week, for your listening pleasure, I have two different songs with the same name.
The first one is from my high school crush...Howard Jones. This was one of his later songs. It wasn't a big hit, but I loved it the moment I heard it. I bought the single on vinyl when I was at college. I'd never seen the music video until this week when I went searching for the song for the Sunday Session. He looks a little different to how I remember him. To me he will always look like this...

I was seriously in love with him and his hair!!

And here's another one, same name, different song.
Loads of people have covered this song, I don't even know who sang the original.
Wait there...I'll ask Mr Wiki...
Oh, he tells me it was Robert Knight in 1968. Hey, this song is as old as me!!
Another version I like is Gloria Estefan's, Jamie Cullum's is great, too.
But this one is my favourite.
Bono is a bit of a dish isn't he? Oh, those Irish eyes!

Happy Sunday!

When I sat down this evening to do the Sunday Session...
nothing came to me.
Not a thing.
I considered a song I heard on the radio today...but nah.
I considered movie songs, the kids were watching Megamind...but nah.

I went to Facebook to ask for suggestions and the very clever Shelly said that February is the second month, so choose songs with 2 in them.
Still, nothing jumped out me so I Googled 'February songs'.

And look what I found!
What a gem.
I'd not heard this song until today, but I do love Josh so.
A man who can play the piano and sing like that.... *dreamy sigh*

I think this song is divine.
It's such a nice change from all the pump-it-up treadmill music I've been listening to lately.

Very sadly, embedding has been disabled, so please click HERE.

A pretty pic to look at.
And when one crooner is not enough...play another one!

I know, I know, I've played the Bube before.
But he's so good, I just have to play him again!

Wouldn't you know it? His has been disabled too, so once again, please click HERE.

And another one.
Just one more song...you know what to do...CLICK HERE.

Thank you Josh.
Thank you Michael.

For this week's Sunday Session I have chosen a year and the year is 2000.
Which just happens to be the year I met my husband.
These two songs are totally different and yet I love them equally.

Do you think ATC hoped to be the next ABBA?
And did those boys actually sing anything??

Ella is awesome.
She is currently making more great music with her brother Jesse in a band called The Verses.
Have a listen HERE.

I've been treadmilling like a mad thing every day.
Yep, that's every single day this year so far.
But I wouldn't do it if I didn't have my music.
The music makes me do it!
And this week I've picked my favourite sing-a-long track.
Boy do I belt this one out as I'm tread tread treading.
It's an oldie, but I still love it.

The next song is not one I have on the treadmill play list, it's a bit too slow.
But for some reason 'In Too Deep' reminds me of this one.
Another of my favourite tunes from the 90s.
I guess it helps that I met and had a little chat with Dazza after we saw him play at a pub in Brisbane many moons ago. He was so nice.

Happy Sunday!

Last Sunday Elvis Presley would have been 77, if he'd still been alive.
If I'd been on the ball, I would have dedicated last week's Sunday Session to Elvis.
But I am this week, a week late, but you know what they say about being late!

I've always loved Elvis. I'm not a mad fan, I don't have collections of Elvis paraphernalia.
But one day I would love to have all of his movies. I love his movies!! I think I have seen all of them.

The ones in Hawaii are my favouites...or any with a wedding...oh ok, any that he sings in is my favourite.
Yep! That's ALL of them!!
So, today's songs are all about Elvis.

This week's Sunday Session is inspired by a hairstyle.
Yep, you read right...a hairstyle.

I've just been watching 'Ghost'.
I hadn't seen it for so long, I love that movie, don't you?
And it got me thinking about Demi Moore's haircut.

It was awesome at the time, 1990 that is.
And there was also a blonde version.
Chynna Phillips from Wilson Phillips...same year, 1990.

So, inspired by these two very similar haircuts from 1990, I give you this week's Sunday Session...enjoy.
(Oh boy, how I love both of these songs!)

And Happy New Year!

So the Sunday Session is on New Year's Day this week!!!

There were lots of great songs released in 2011.
For this Sunday Session I'm playing a few faves from the year we just farewelled.

Do you have a favourite tune from 2011?

I hope there are no sore heads out there today.
(Hope mine isn't either....wrote this last night!)

Wishing you only wonderful things in 2012.
It's an even year, my favourite kind...so it's gotta be good!!

And Merry Christmas!

So the Sunday Session is on Christmas Day this week...
Last week I promised you some tunes from my new,
and now favourite, Christmas CD of Michael Bublé's.

So here he is...my 3 favourites from...

...it was really hard to narrow them all down to 3!

I'm not sure if any of you will have time to play along today.
But I hope you're all celebrating Christmas just the way you want, with the people you love.

See you next week for the New Year Sunday Session!!

Happy Sunday!

Last week I had an Australian Idol winner.
This week I have the X Factor winner.
Did you watch?
I kinda did. When it wasn't a Junior Masterchef (which I watched with the kids) night.
I didn't vote, never do.
But I was happy with the winner.
I think Reece Mastin is an amazing young talent.
What do you think of his winner's song?
It is Number 1 on the Aria singles chart this week.
I think it's very catchy, but has some dodgy lyrics.

And just for fun I just looked up the number one single in Australia when Reece was born,
November 1994.
It's Silverchair!
How about that? Another amazing young talent.

Happy Sunday!

I've been a fan of Guy Sebastian since he first appeared on our television in Australian Idol.
We share our birthdays...that's gotta make him a good guy (see what I did there?)...right?
Here is his latest toon and I love it already!

And if you're from my era, just seeing the title of Guy's new song has to make you think of this oldie.

This song has a special memory for me.
When I was young, just 20 years old, I was driving home to the farm for the weekend after a week at college in Brisbane.
My little Gemini overheated just past the half way mark in my hour long drive.
This was in the days before mobile phones...I know, what did we do without them??
We I pulled up at a tiny town with nothing but a couple of houses, a shop, and a pay phone...that's what!
Thankfully I had 20c (I think that's all it used to cost for a local call in 1988) in my wallet because it was often empty!
I called Mum, got back into my car, and this song came on.
I couldn't help but smile.

Happy Sunday!

I had no inspiration this week so I returned to my favourites on You Tube and found this one.
I cannot tell you how much I loved this song when I was in high school.
It was 1984 and it reminds me of summer...friends...and crushes!!
One was Hubba's cousin...shhhhhh...don't tell him!
I still love this song.
Love love love it....

So if I have an oldie, I have to go with a newbie, right?
I know this one has played on some Sunday Sessions already.
But it's so darn catchy!
My Miss 4 sings, "She's got the moves cha cha, she's got the moves cha cha, she's got the mooo-oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oooo-ves cha cha."
It's No.3 on this week's Aria singles chart.

Happy Sunday!

This week my Miss 4 and I heard this song in the supermarket.
I was singing along and she was doing some mean trolley dancing.
I can't believe I haven't played ABBA on the Sunday Session yet!

Were you an ABBA fan?
It was the 70s, I was in primary school.
My friends and I were massive ABBA fans.
I had a blue ABBA t-shirt.
I desperately wanted knee high ABBA socks, but sadly never got any.
I had posters, a scrapbook, collected bubble gum cards.
Oh....those were the days.

So, let's play another one...

My teacher in primary school changed the words to that one for our school camp to...
"I love food, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do."
We thought it was hilarious!

Just one more, huh?
Why not...

The last one is my favourite.
Although it is hard to a a single favourite.
We had all their albums.
My whole family loved ABBA.

Do you have an ABBA favourite??
Please tell me you love them, too.
Pleeeeeeaaase.
