Zara Phillips' Wedding Dress

Here comes another bride.
I get goosesbumps every time I see a bride.
Every.Single.Time.
And so I did again when I watched this...

Ahhhhhh
Isn't she beautiful?

Well, every bride is, isn't she?
Even if she does get some things a bit wrong.
Just like every baby is beautiful...I'm not going to be telling any mother that she has an ugly baby!!

So, OK, Zara did get a few things wrong.
Her hair was wrong.
The colour of her dress was wrong, it was too white for her colouring.
The style wasn't flattering.
And it was a smidge too long.

I think every girl should look more beautiful than she has ever looked before on her wedding day.
And I think Zara has looked better, lots of times.
Like at William and Kate's wedding, for example.

But I did love her tiara, her bouquet, and her smile.
She certainly was a radiant bride, and as long as she's happy, that's all that matters.

Zara Phillips (Princess Anne's daughter and the granddaughter of the Queen) and Mike Tindall were married at 3pm on the 30th July in Edinburgh.

I wish Zara and Mike every happiness.

PS Yes, I'm back already! That must have been the shortest blog break in the history of blog breaks!! Thanks to everyone who left such lovely comments and emails for me. Seems I was sooking for nothing. In future when I have no comments I will just assume that everyone is still reading...even if you're not. ;)

The Royal Wedding

Well, if you didn't know I was super excited about the royal wedding you've either been hiding under a rock, or you don't visit me here very often!

And so, it is over.
I mean it has just begun.

The marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge...aka Will & Kate.

It was just so wonderful.
We turned it into a family event.
We all wore tiaras, except for my 6 year old boy.
We all sat on the couch and oooohed and ahhhhed together.
I was most impressed by how into the whole thing my husband was.

And it was perfect.
Kate was the perfect princess bride.
To me she looked like Princess Grace meets Princess Mary meets Maria from the Sound of Music.

I made a prediction months ago about what she might wear...you can see that here.
I was a little bit wrong and a little bit right.
She wore lace, as I predicted. And I had the neckline partially correct.
I was surprised she wore long sleeves.
And I loved the way her skirt fell.
I was really hoping for some colour in the bridal party, but as usual it was all ivory, still stunning though.

And the designer was Sarah Burton from the house of Alexander McQueen.
I've read a lot already that the design was too safe.
But I think they got it just right.
It was very traditional and timeless, as I think is Kate.
I don't think she'll put a step out of place.
I think finally we have a royal couple that will work.

I love them both and wish nothing but the best for them.

Oh, and she did have a second dress for the second reception. Something I didn't think she'd do.

Today's The Day!

Well, the countdown ticker has stopped, the day has arrived!!

Not for Kate and William yet, but it's the 29th April here and I am going all out.

I'll be putting up a Royal Wedding Blog Party post a little later.

Eight Years

Today is our 8th Wedding Anniversary.

So I am going to take a walk down memory lane and share our wedding with you.

We never intended to have both of our children in the within five days before our wedding anniversary, it just worked out that way. But I am so glad their birthdays are before and not after, because I feel such an immense sense of relief when they're over that I am ready to enjoy our anniversary.

On Friday, 13th September, 2002 we were married and had the most beautiful wedding. I meticulously planned every detail. And I was lucky enough to find a man who allowed me to have total creative control, that meant it was very pink and he was OK with that. (That's a good man!)

I wanted an evening, city wedding, with the sparkling lights all around us. And I wanted it to be near water, so we picked the perfect venue, Snug Harbour Dockside (now called The Landing) with yachts on the Brisbane River in the background. Of course it was booked more for than 12 months in advance for Saturday weddings, so we went with Friday. Yeah, it was the 13th...but we chose to think of it as our lucky day.

I wanted to be saying our vows at dusk, so we chose to have most of our photos taken before the ceremony. I had the amazing Toula from Beautiful Images do my hair & make-up and transform me into a super model (Well, that's how I felt!).

I found adorable twin sisters, MXM, to design and make my princess, pink(!) dress. And I made my sweet little niece's flowergirl dress. She was our only attendant.

I met my stunningly handsome groom in the foyer for more photos taken by Glen from Sterling Studios.

Then it was time for the ceremony. We walked in together, following our darling little flowergirl who was scattering rose petals to the beautiful music of a string quartet playing Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Our marriage celebrant was Jacqueline Gray, she was so lovely.

Always Fabulous Flowers did my bouquet, the flowers for my flower girl's hair, the reception tables and the cake flowers. They were stunning.

I wasn't going to have a cake at all. But the florist told me about The Welsh Lady, and she sounded perfect. I didn't have any cake on the night but I was told it was divine.

Then it was time for our guests (46 adults and 5 children) to party! (After a few family photos and night time city shots)

We cut the cake and then danced the night away.

We found Pump Fiction through an entertainment agency and went to see them play at Aurora's (which is where we happened to meet) before we booked them. We loved them and they were so much fun.

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband.
I always said my dreams came true when I met you.

Diana's Designer Does Kate Dress

Many of you would know I am an avid fan of the royal family and am more than a tad excited about the upcoming nuptials of William and Kate.

I blogged about my vision of Kate's wedding dress and many royal weddings here not long ago.

This is what I can see her wearing...

...or something similar.

One of the blogs I love, and is on my blog roll, is All Things Princess Diana.
Yesterday's post on that blog was Elizabeth Emanuel's vision of Kate's wedding dress.
Yes, the Elizabeth Emanuel, designer of Princess Diana's wedding dress.
This is her design...

It is stunning, there is no question about that.

But I am fairly certain a royal bride would not wear a strapless or off-the-shoulder dress, in the church at least. A bolero, capelet or jacket is possible, if she wanted a strapless gown for the reception. I think that is much more likely than a completely new dress for the reception as many celebrities have chosen to do lately.

I'm also fairly certain she won't be doing the fish-tail thing.
She has the height and figure to carry it off beautifully, but she has already shown that her style is really quite traditional. A fish-tail just doesn't seem her, to me.

Kate's Wedding Dress

If you love royal weddings as much as me ~~if that's possible~~ you might enjoy this...

Less than 24 hours after the engagement of William and ~~Kate~~ Catherine was announced I began wondering who would design 'the' dress? What will it look like?
I have so many images and designs running around in my head, I thought I'd get some of the ideas out and see how close I am.

I think her dress will be ivory, silk satin or all over lace.
It will have sleek, clean lines.
I don't think it will be strapless, unless she wears a lace/sheer bolero or capelet over it.
It will of course have a long train, perhaps some embroidery somewhere.
I don't think there will be gathers or ruching anywhere on the dress.

And because I love playing on Polyvore so much, I decided to put together a wedding ensemble for ~~Kate~~ Catherine ~~whatever.~~
Of course, her wedding outfit will be much more grand, as it should be, it has to fill the Abbey you know!
But I think she and her bridesmaids (I wonder who they will be) would look regal, graceful, elegant and stunning in something like this...

Simple lace wedding gown. All royal brides need incredibly long trains, so a lace detachable train would be beautiful on this dress. Her accessories and bridesmaids are in sapphire blue to match her amazing engagement ring. And I love the sapphire blue flats which she could slip on after the formalities for dancing the night away with her prince.
