Facebook

When I joined Facebook...a few years ago...it was an amazing new way to connect with friends and family that I was way too far away from. And a fun way to connect with people I saw regularly.

Then I got myself into a major falling out with one of those people I saw regularly, on Facebook.
And I learned it can be a dangerous place.

Now I have a lot of *friends* who I've never met on Facebook.
And I still have family and friends that live too far away.

But I feel less connected to everyone.

I think the recent changes have made it harder to *keep up* with everyone and everything.
I feel like I'm missing things.
And I feel like I am more invisible.

Are you feeling the same way?
Or is it just me??

  1. Interesting Thea. I agree with you. I don't tend to use my personal FB page a lot. I prefer to email people or call them on the phone. I agree that it's all moving too fast though. Exhausting.

  2. I don't like the new changes either. Mind you, I am also trying to cut back on my FB consumption so it's not an entirely bad thing LOL!

  3. I had to ditch my couple of weeks on facebook last year, after an old friend made some sleazy comments that made my husband see red. I've been meeting a lot of new people through my party plan business, including seeing more of my little sister, but it's likely the company will close around Christmas, which is just a shock at the moment. Since I've had my iphone for the last month, my ability to keep in touch with people has improved 100%. I am truly loving the ease of use after having the same slow old mobile for about 12 years! I have slowed down my blogging time, but next year I am going to make a comeback, and get back into crafting. Now that my eyes have been opened to party plan, I'm interested in making my own stuff and selling it that way, and at markets, and get back on etsy.
That's the first time I've said that, so thanks for the opportunity! xx

  4. Oh, yes. I fully agree that it is a perfect way to connect wth those you don't see and live a distance away, however, I have also learned while watching my own girl's on facebook that, ahem, it isn't always a good place to be saying things (anything for that matter)for it is in a message, a remark, innocent enough that one (just one) may interpret incorrectly. I have a love hate relationship with facebook myself.

  5. It's not just you... I'm getting used to the changes, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm not 100% happy with them! I use FB to share updates on bub and the family to friends and relatives dotted all over oz... but I feel like some things are slipping through the cracks. I'm about ready to give up on FB and us +Google instead.

  6. I have to agree with Silentwhisper1 that it is way too easy to have a remark wrongly interpreted on FB. I ended up in the middle of a ugly dispute - all because I wished someone Happy Birthday - but that someone just happened to be on someone elses blacklist.

  7. Hi hon.

I added people to a 'close friends' list, because I wasn't seeing a lot of info about my IRL friends before the changes. Now I click on that and get all their news, so I'm loving it for that.

But I also find a lot of people don't use it much. They start off strong, then pull back. I don't use FB much either, but I've loved reconnecting with old friends, and I think it's great for your blog.

  8. I don't use it really at all. I have Google Plus, and I love that!

  9. I have to say I have finally gotten a handle on the new changes and love that you can now customise it, so see more of the people you want to see and less of the others. That said, why have the others on there? I don't really know...

Just one little comment will make my day.
