Mind Games

I've been invited to dinner with a group of friends next Friday night that I used to work with and haven't seen since my wedding seven and a half years ago....Great!

It's in the city, more than an hour and half from where I live...Not great :(

One of the friends said I could stay at her place...Great!

I don't like sleeping over at other people's places...Not great :(

I suggested we could have a night in a nice hotel and show the kids the city, and my husband agreed...Great!

This means I have to book somewhere and pack...Not great :(

I love overnight stays in the city...Great!

But I get so nervous turning up anywhere (like the restaurant) alone...Not great :(

My husband said he'd drop me off...Great!

We're booked for dinner at 7:30, the kids will be ready for bed, possibly sleeping by then...Not great :(

There will be four girls there that I'd love to see again...Great!

I have nothing to wear...Not great :(

I'd love to go...Great!

But I don't know if it's worth the worry and the bother...Not great :(

See the sorts of games my mind likes to play with me?

I don't know how I live with myself.

  1. Wow! Your reasoning is so similar to mine! Find a nice outfit...that's where I always start! And I hope you have a lovely time x

  2. Just go! Once you're there, you'll be glad you did.

    Enjoy!

  3. Go, but stop building it up because it WILL disappoint. The best nights are the ones you don't anticipate.

  5. I'm with Jodie too. Just go and have a great time. You will be glad you did. How often do we as mums get to have a night out? Not very often--for me anyway.

    Enjoy it.

  6. I completely understand your over-analysing, but... I'm with everyone else. Go!!! Otherwise you'll be sitting at home that night, wishing you'd done something different (or is that just me?!).

  7. Go and have a blast :)

I know how you feel though, I do it for everything...even just going to the movies involves a massive mind game.

  10. Sound like your brain is tiring you out! I guess we (= women) all do it. And does it help? I don't think so. I ask myself a simple question: what would you regret more: going or not going? Without all the considerations you mentioned:)) It's an easy pick and once you decide you want to go, all will fall into place:))
