Your Mother is Unavailable

Some days, not every day because that would make me a bad mother, I need a button.

You know those days where you hear...

 'MUM!'

...just one too many times?

Oh, who am I kidding?
You hear it about a hundred times and the hundredth time just makes you want to cry. Usually because that hundredth time is just when you've just closed the toilet door or just sat down to try to finish your latest blog post or just stepped into the shower.

That's when I need a big black button to magically appear.
A button that plays a recording in a booming, authoritative voice...

"Your mother is temporarily unavailable.
She is on a sanity break and will return shortly."

Reckon that would work?
No? I didn't think so.
Oh, well.

  1. My mother always said that she was going to change her name, so that when we called out 'Mum' she would be able to say 'Sorry, that isn't me' and she would haven't deal with our constant questions/complaints/requests etc.

  2. Great idea!

When I was growing up, if Mum was sitting down with a cup of tea and a book, she was off duty. No one was allowed to talk to her or ask her for anything. She just asked for that 10 minutes a couple of times a day.

Hang on, why haven't I brought in such a rule?!

  3. I've tries the "is it an accident or emergency? No? then I just need ten minuites - yes that means when the big hand is there and the little hand is there (or depending on the clock - the numbers are 10:25) Until then you sit QUIETLY. That sometimes works.
    *hugs*

  4. And then, when the incessant "Mum" requests diminish, when they are at school, you miss it.

  5. I try to remind myself that one day I'm going to miss how they all wanted a piece of me all day every day, though on days like you've described, that can be VERY hard to imagine! xx
