Real Friends

Real friends are people you can count on.
Real friends are people you call, regularly.
Real friends are people you see often.
Real friends are always there for you.
Real friends are people you're always there for.

I used to have real friends.
Sadly, I neglected all of them.
Now I have none.

Remember to water your garden of real friends.
Or they will wither and die.

  1. Real friends are people who don't watch clocks.

    Real friends do not timekeep.

Real friends hate the way you can be, but love who you are.

Real friends do not expect to be watered.

    1. I love this!
My college friends of 25+ years are like this.
I just don't see them often enough and then start getting all down and lonely. Guess it's time for another catch up with them.

      xx

  2. P.S. Real friends do not need to be "real", they may never have met you but still care.

  3. Madmother is quite correct.Real friendships transcend time and distance. Friendships can't always been nurtured regularly - there are too many obstacles in the daily pressures of modern life - but that doesn't mean that your friends will not be there for you when the going gets tough:) I think many people feel alone when they feel low - I certainly have - and it is sometimes hard to reach out to otheres when you feel down but it is usually worth it. There's a lot of truth in that old adage "a problem shared is a problem halved."

    1. You're so right, Jane. I'm feeling low and lonely because I haven't seen my oldest and dearest friends since March. And an ex-friend just popped back into town this week which stirred up a whole lot of stuff I'd rather forget.

Thanks for your lovely words. They help a lot. x

  4. Yes, I agree with both Madmother and Jane Turley - real friends remain regardless of the circumstances. Believe me, I have shed a number of so called friends over the years because I no longer measured up to their idea of how I should live my life. But the ones who remain actually like me for me. Three of my friends are people I have never met in person - yet after about three years of knowing them they remain friends through all the ups and downs of our lives.
Real friends don't desert you - ever!

    1. Thanks Lyn for helping me to remember that I do have some of those friends who would never desert me - ever! I only see them once a year, if I'm lucky. I'm missing them at the moment.

    1. I'm sure they would, if I put in the effort to contact them!

  6. I had real friends and although we didn't see each other regularly we always knew each other was there and that was the important thing. All those real friends of mine have now left this mortal coil and I miss them so much. Do try and keep in touch with your friends as much as you can 'cos you never realise how much you will miss them until they are gone forever leaving only wonderful memories. xx

  7. Real friends can be like a bunch of flowers
    Some are beautiful forever
    And some wilt quickly
Some continue to grow, even after being cut
Some stink and you need to discard them
Sometimes a real friendship dies a natural death... Doesn't mean they weren't a good friend for a season
There's always time to make new friends
    Love you my sister
    Xx

  8. Oh Thea, just catching up on some backlog of blog reading. Sorry to read you're a bit down at the moment. Rest assured, we ALL go through these times. I have moments of complete insecurity where I feel that all my friends don't need me anymore. I know of course, it's totally silly, because regardless of whether I see them or not, they love me and I love them. You know deep down who the real friends are and nine times out of ten they are the ones you'll keep for a lifetime. Funny too, I just posted yesterday about 'effortless' friendships and how wonderful they are. By effortless, I mean the ones that just keep rolling on, whether we see each other regularly or not. It's not unusual to feel down and lonely though Thea, so never worry about having those feelings. Big hugs xoxo

  9. I have a terrible habit of being a bit negligent myself when it comes to friends.
I just get so caught up in my own busy life that I don't realise how much time has lapsed since I saw them!
It's never a reflection of how much I care, its just my nature…
My real friends understand this and are always there for me when I do finally remerge from my little bubble (either that or they seek me out - Friendship is a two way street after all and mostly about give and take.)

I also believe friends come in and out of your life too depending on each stage of your life.
If you stop to consider it you'll realise that you always seem to have the exact right people around you at any given time even if you didn't realise it then or now...

Hope you're feeling more positive soon dearest xx
