Amy Winehouse & Cadel Evans

Do you ever feel like you're living on the wrong planet?

It seems the world (or Australia, at least) has gone mad over Cadel Evans and Amy Winehouse.

And I couldn't care less about either of them.

Sometimes I get the urge to jump on the bandwagon about things...

but not either of these two.

I was never into Amy Winehouse or her music when she was alive so it means absolutely nothing to me that she died.

Of course I think it's sad, any life lost at such a young age is a tragedy for those who loved her.

But me? Meh.

Likewise, I've never been into cycling.  I think it's a silly sport. And I know a lot about it because my ex and his father were both VERY keen cyclists.

I spent the night in emergency once when my ex came off his bike and narrowly missed ending up under a car.

I watched the Tour de France (and re-runs on video!) more times than I care to remember.

They're crazy, nuts! Why would you sit on that uncomfortable little saddle and ride up and down alpine mountain ranges??? I don't get it.

And I'm pretty sure most of Australia didn't care too much for cycling either...until we have a winner.

Australia just loves a winner, don't they?

I must be so un-Autralian because I really don't care.
I'm not into sport, or winning, and I'm certainly not getting excited about something that doesn't excite me just because we have a winner.

So there...see? Told you I'm on the wrong planet.
Today I will endeavour to find out which planet I do belong to and find my way back home.

  2. Like you I knew nothing of either of these people until they suddenly hit the headlines. I also agree that those racing cyclists seem to have a death wish. Just watching them all struggle for a lead at the start; and knowing what can happen if one bike just clips the other...??? Not for me, that's for sure.

  3. I am with you on both as well. And while death is always sad, I would much rather mourn the loss of people who actually meant something to me or made a difference in the world. That may sound mean, but I think giving celebrities like Amy Winehouse so much media play is unfair to the many important issues going on around the world.
