On Sale!

One of the things I've hated most...all my life...is being pushed into something!
The more you try to talk me into something, the harder I'll dig my heels in.
The more you try to shove me, the more pissed off annoyed I'll be.

This is one of the main reasons I practically turn psycho mid year, when the bloody toy sales begin.
Stop me now before I scream louder than a banshee.
I CANNOT STAND IT!!!!!!
Sorry, too late.

I also hate commercialism.
Look...if I need to buy something...I can find it all by myself.
Yeah, I'm clever like that.
I go to the shop, I look, I find, I buy.
Crazy, I know!

OR

Even better, I Google it, I find, I buy....online...even easier.

I do not need brochures.
I do not need billboards.
I do not need TV advertising.

Why?
Because I'm smart.
I can do it all by myself.
Advertising...I do not need YOU...

And right now I want to use that naughty word and say...

you-know-what-that-starts-with-f OFF!!!

But I won't because I do not swear in this space...but I am *this* close.

And now that K-Mart, Target and Myer (and God knows who else) are all over the place with their bloody flippin' TOY SALES...I'm as mad as a cut snake. Apparently, they're pretty damn MAD!

Every time one of those ads are on TV I just want to scream at it...

I DO NOT NEED MORE TOYS.
THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY TOYS IN THIS HOUSE ALREADY.
STOP ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO BUY MORE TOYS.
GET OFF MY FRICKEN TEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

You get the idea.
It's not pretty.

Do I have a problem?

Or do you feel the same?

  1. Toy sales are like my own personal hell. Hoardes of over-zealous parents battling each other to buy plastic crap for kids who don't need it with money they don't have.

Consumerism gone nucking futz. I hate it with a passion.

  2. I hate advertising period. Especially the really annoying ones. (Read: Most of them). And I hate crowded shopping centres. And now my kids are old enough, they want to GO to the toy sales. And spend money I don't have. Best to avoid them really ... except that I love the free/cheap events they put on to get you there!

  3. My youngest 2 have been poring over the kmart and big dub catalogues all week. They are the favourite books in this house atm. I told them to go through it and then later when I'm not busy they can tell me what they want for Christmas. I have been busy ever since but my 7 year old has been going on and on about some dog she wants and the 4 year old has mentioned a few things. I've filed it away in the memory bank and will buy them stuff when the Chrissy sales are on. Until then, I'm enjoyinbbtje peace and quiet while they study the brochures. As for the tv ads, I just block them out, kind of like the kids on day 11 of the school holidays ( who's counting?).

  5. I think we have SALE overload. Do you remember when sales only really happened twice a year, and now there are sales on every week! I hardly ever buy something full price these days. I just wait until a sale comes!

  6. I agree! And look, I could be wrong, but I think they have just got worse and worse... or perhaps I am just older and my kids have grown out of the toy stage? I'm not sure.

But there seems to be so much advertising about plastic crap - and it seems to be dictating to parents and children what to buy as well as where. Ugh.

So, rant away! I'm there with you!

  7. Hahaha! This IS BRILLIANT Thea! I love how passionate you are about this situation. It is a funny thing, I'm a little the same. I don't get too bothered by the advertising, BUT I am getting a little sick of every mother I know talking about the toy sales. To be honest, the sales don't inspire me to stock up now for Christmas or buy things to put away, because quite frankly they bamboozle me. I really don't like shopping with hoards of other people and I never know what to buy anyway, because like yourself, I know what I want and when I want it. Also, I don't really want any more toys cluttering up our house either... WE HAVE SO MANY!
Just writing this comment now has increased my disliking for the toy sales... haha! ;o)
